The cover is one of my favorite aspects of a book. I'd imagine a lot of people agree, since it's the first thing a reader sees when they are deciding whether or not to read the book. There will always be trends in covers, because they tend to follow trends in what's popular at the time. Case in point: after Twilight, there were a bunch of covers of a hand holding something on the plethora of vampire books that flooded the market.
I noticed an interesting trend in indie urban fantasy books. Urban fantasy tends to feature a powerful lead female character, and she tends to be depicted on the cover with a weapon of some sort.
Do you see what I'm talking about? There's also some interesting similarities between the fonts used!
I personal like this trend–it hypes me up to see a badass woman on the cover, because I know it should feature a great female lead that I'll enjoy.
What do you think about this trend?
