Hello Susan! I’m so glad to be interviewing you today! Welcome to my blog! All right, let’s get down to the questions.

Hi Ashley! Happy to be here. :)

1. In addition to your YA novels, you’ve also written adult. Is there a difference in writing for the two? Which do you prefer?
Yes, there's definitely a difference in writing for teens versus adults. I love how teen stories have a lot of first experiences, which makes everything more exciting. But love can be transient and teens are usually finding perfect-for-right-now. When writing for adults, I’m an absolute sucker for Happily Ever After love. HEAs give me the warm fuzzies. Both genres rock in different ways. My preference depends on my mood.

2. Do you listen to music while you write? If you do, are there any particular artists or bands that you listen to the most? Why?
Not always. Music can distract me. For example, if I’m writing an intense scene and some happy party song comes on that can throw the mood. But, there are certain songs that remind me of characters for sure. Whenever I hear Collide by Howie Day, I think of Kylie and Trip from my teen novel Shaken. Melts my heart every single time.

3. Which one of your characters do you identify with, and why?
Probably Amy Love in See Me. She lives with what suits her mood at the time and I can definitely be like that. Long term planning’s not really her gig. She’s more interested in trying to understand whatever’s going on in the moment. Whether it’s her parents’ latest blowout or a first date with the guy she’s been crushing on. She’s vivacious. I love that about her.

4. Why did you decide to become an author?
There's so much I love about being an author, I could write a book on that topic alone. Creating a story is delving into someone's life in the most intimate way because I'm typing out their journey through their eyes and thinking their thoughts with them. I feel their tragedies and triumphs as if they were my own and by the end of the novel, the characters are beloved friends I cherish. Fiction's not supposed to be real but in a lot of ways it is. Haven't you laughed or cried while deep into a novel? The feelings are real. I think the emotional pull's the best part of writing. And of reading for that matter.

Fun questions!
5. How many licks does it take to get to the center of a tootsie pop?
I’m the kind of girl who bites right into it. Whether it's chomping into a tootsie pop to get to the center or paying hardback prices for the 2nd and 3rd books in the Hunger Games trilogy. When I want something, I have to have it. Now. Patience is not my m.o.

6. You’re trapped in a cave with only 3 things to keep you entertained. What are they?
Bat repellent would be #1. That would be to keep the surrounding entertainment away from me because...eeeek! #2 would have to be my laptop because she and I can't part for any length of time. #3 I'd require back-to-back episodes of The Vampire Diaries. Veronica Blade has been all over me to watch them and I've never seen an episode (shhh, don't tell anyone!).

Fun questions, Ashley. Thanks so much for having me on your rockin' blog. TTYL and happy reading!
