After a demon apocalypse kills their parents and everyone they know, 17-year old Abby Phillips, her brother, Carter, and friend, Max flee their home to travel through what has become the wastelands of America. When radio transmissions of a resistance offering shelter and safety cease, Abby is tempted to give up. Struggling to overcome life-threatening obstacles in their dangerous journey, Abby and her companions quickly discover there are much worse things lurking in the dark than they could have ever imagined.I first saw Released on Goodreads, and then contacted Megan for the possibility of reviewing it, and I'm so glad she said yes! This book isn't at all what I expected, it was much darker and grittier, and much more intense.
The entire novel was a whirlwind of action and suspense. There was a lot of demon killing and all of the characters were in major survival mode the entire time. I liked Abby, she was kick ass and tough. Carter and Max were good characters too, although they didn't feel as fleshed out as Abby.
Plot-wise, while it was full of nasty ol' demons, I didn't feel as though it was very balanced. Like, we got from point A to point B, with a slight detour at Point A-and-a-half, but there wasn't really much... what's the word I'm looking for...... variety, I think. But it was a good plot and concept. I also didn't feel like it was fully resolved at the ending, so I'm really hoping there's a sequel!
I feel as though it could have used a bit more editing though, as the grammar was incorrect in some places, and overall it could have flowed better. But it's nothing that can't be improved upon with a little work.
I really enjoyed reading it, and it was a relatively quick read, which was good. The cover is awesome, very intriguing!I give this novel 3.5 out of 5 stars.
