Discussion: When Your Favorite Character Dies {told in gifs}

This has happened to everyone of us at some point. Maybe it happened when you read The Deathly Hallows, or maybe in another series, but it's happened.

YOUR FAVORITE CHARACTER DIED.

Why am I bringing this up? Because this just happened to me again after a very long time of no favorite character deaths, and honestly, I'm not prepared for it. At all.

You see, I don't take calling someone my favorite character lightly. I have to really connect to that character emotionally, and care deeply about what happens to them. So when that character dies, it hits me life a freaking punch to the gut. I literally get depressed about it.

This was me when I read about the death of my favorite character:

That's the sadness. The grieving. It's like "SERIOUSLY, DID THEY REALLY NEED TO DIE?" Come on! That death could totally have been avoided! And then comes the anger....

Once all these emotions have run their course, I finally calm down and then I just pretend like it never happened and my favorite character is still alive. :)

So how do you feel when your favorite character dies?

  2. Omg. Don't get me started. I absolutely HATE it when one of my favorite characters die. I get SO mad and sometimes even CRY. Seriously. I'm not kidding.

My husband has found me in tears because one of my favorite characters died. He thinks I'm nuts.

But anyway, moving on. It makes me so mad. Sometimes I even put down the book and just stare at it going, "Are you freaking kidding me? WHY?!"

This happened at the end of Shadow Kiss with Dimitri. If you know what I mean. Definitely NOT going to tell. But then, in Spirit Bound, I was happy. =D

But yeah, SERIOUSLY HATE IT. Great post!!

  3. I go straight for the denial. One of my favorite characters died in a book I read recently, and I spent the rest of the book waiting for them to be like JUST KIDDING. We will bring him back with MAGIC. But no.

In my world he's still alive.

LOVE this post! That little girl shaking her hairbrush LOL.

  5. LOL! Yeah, those gifs look about right... We definitely felt that way about a certain character in Mockingjay -- and worse, we weren't even given time in the story to grieve!

  8. First off - AMAZING post! Second - nice shout out to GLEE! Love it!

You are so right. Nothing is worse than losing your favourite character in book - what's worse is a series that keeps going well after your character dies off. *sniff sniff*

  9. When that happens, I often times rewrite the ending in my head so that the character doesn't die. Because most times I'm so attached to that character I can't stand it.
