To blog, or not to blog? That is the question...

I've written this post a thousand times, and I've deleted it a thousand and one. But, I'm just going to say it now.

I've lost the will to blog.

Well, that's actually not very accurate. I want to blog, so much, I have all these post ideas and everything is written neatly down in my planner, and it's all ready for me. But every time I sit down to get things done.... I open the post, stare at it for a few seconds, then close it again. I may write like 5 words, but the end result is always the same.

I have no idea what's gotten into me. I guess it really started when I was taking my final exams 2 weeks ago, and I just stopped blogging because I knew I wouldn't have enough time. But I kept telling myself "I'll get back to it when summer starts." And... I haven't.

I've also been in an enormous reading slump. I haven't read a word in weeks.

This is really troubling to me, because I love this blog. I've put so much effort into it, since I first started it 3 years ago, and I just don't want to see all of that go down the drain.

I don't know what to do. I've tried just staying away from blogging for a while, letting myself rest and rejuvenate, but that hasn't helped. I'm thinking that the only thing to do is just sit down and blog. Exert some self control and actually get things done.

Thoughts? I'd love some advice. Anything, everything.

  1. Don't give up... your blog is too awesome to stop. Although, I don't really have any insightful advice or anything. All I can say is keep trying, don't stop, and try to remember why you love blogging and why you started it in the first place. Sorry I can't be more helpful!

  2. You want to know something ? I feel the exact same way ! I haven't read something in weeks, I haven't written a review in a while and I feel awful.

I would say you shouldn't force yourself to do it. They just makes you resentful. I wish I had some better advice. Usually what motivates me is reading other blogs and just commenting. I see what others are doing and soon I want to do it too !

    Hang in there !

  4. We all go through this at least once or twice or more. Sometimes you just need to get away from it, take a break. Find something else to preoccupy your mind, something you enjoy but haven't done in awhile. Maybe try a book outside your genre, or reread a book you loved. Or maybe rethink the way you blog. Write a completely random post about something you love that's not book related.

I had to take a couple breaks from my blog to take care of some things in real life and reformat my blog. Every time I came back feeling pretty good about it.

Hang in there! It's just a rough patch. :)

  5. Jessica is right as we all seem to go through this at one time or the other. What helped me was taking a break. I still read other blogs and would comment occasionally, but sometimes I didn't even turn on my computer. Felt very freeing to not worry about posting.

Maybe take a break from reading as well and live life for awhile. The reading urge will eventully come back. Then the blogging bug. But if it doesn't, don't beat yourself up. Blogging is supposed to be a fun way to share our love of reading, so try not to let it stress you out.

  6. Like everyone else, I can feel ya! I've been going through this myself and I think taking a break might help. Don't think about blogging; I, personally, felt like it became a job and that's when I knew to stop and take a break. As for the reading, maybe it wa the genre? I read a few paranormals in a row and that just didn't work for me; I ended up in a reading slump. I read contemporary and that really brought me back.

I recently discovered your blog (and vlogs! Love them!) and I love it! I hope you'll continue!

  7. I wouldn't worry. You're probably just in a slump. We all fall into them now and then. When I get that way about YouTube, I cut back but I try to post once a week at least to keep my viewers connected. Then at some point and I just find myself naturally coming out of that slump and feeling normal again.

  8. Take a break, enjoy some others things (Baking, Running, watching movies, ... ) and go back to your blog.
Your followers won't be going anywhere. I know I'm not ! But it is okay to post nothing for a few weeks. Blogging is great, but there is some other things to do !

Some other readers suggested to re-read a book you loved : I couldn't agree more ! I get some reading slump when I read a few okay-books in a row : But reading a great one always put me back on tracks.

  9. I know it most be a huge responsibility to have this blog and to post here regularly and I don't know if what I tell you will help somehow but I'll say it anyway. I discovered this blog a few week ago, when I was looking for a review of Shadows, by Jennifer L.Armentrout, and I found yours. I completely loved you review, loved it so much that I had to read every other review you had written so I started reading and reading, and found a lot of books that I didn't know before, or books that I had heard of but didn't know they were that good.
so, I subscribed to receive e-mails of your post, and every time I see you posted something new,I get al excited to read wht you have to say and what gifs will you use.
So, I mean I get it, everyone goes through a slump and I guess you have better things to do with your life, but no matter what you do, I'll be sure to keep reading anything you post, even if it once every three months.
Your blog is amazing, thank you so much for writing it and for allowing me to learn of a lot of new books, or to find someone who thought the same as I did of a book :D

  10. I certainly don't want you to give up because I love your blog, but if blogging isn't fun for you right now then maybe you should take a break. Blogging needs to work for you and your life. I would just focus on things that make you happy and if blogging works its way into that then great. but If you want to take a break, I know I will be right here waiting when you get back :)

  11. I wouldn't worry, sometimes we just need some time to rest even from the things we love. Not because they are a burden or we are tired of them but because part of loving something is being comfortable enough knowing that you can take a break and when you come back that love for it (blogging) will flood back to you instantly. It'll never leave you :).

  12. I recently took a blogging break when I went on vacation - that lasted for almost two months. I think it's only natural to feel like taking a step back and doing other things if we're overwhelmed or can't find the inspiration to sit down and write a post.
